I have a 300k 2003 rwd 3.0 ranger with unknown mileage transmission. It had a delayed reverse, 2-3 flare, and would lose its mind seldomly at 50ish mph and smooth out after a second. I removed the vb, noticed a section of gasket missing(never found) and the epc check valve and filter were missing. I buffed the separator plate with sandpaper wheel for new gaskets. Installed most of the kit including electrical mod. I did not do the part that most couldn't remove and it was siezed. I freed it up and worked in silicone spray. I also haven't done the servo part. Right now it shifts to reverse properly but the 2-3 is still there and also all gears shift hard. I am concerned maybe a keeper fell out, gasket material went into transmission, Ford plus superior mod on epc which is new, or possibly just need to complete the kit and do the servo part?
Update - installed int servo spring and removed pressure riser option. Removed vb to check for possible missing keepers but all were there. Found new upper vb gasket deformed at passenger front corner edge. Looks like it was either sucked in or occurred during installation. On Wednesday I hope to swap with used bonded vb plate(due to availability) and harness that's not butchered. Haven't driven enough to give a reliable result.
Update - new vb gaskets again(I guess bonded plates aren't a thing anymore). Swapped ss3 with new, new harness. I hooked battery back up and let the ranger warm up and checked fluid....a smidge below the hot section. Started the relearn process of going through the gears 3 times with low, medium, then heavy throttle. The shifts weren't good but happened until 3rd under heavy throttle....never found 4th....then pretty much lost all gears for a few minutes. I am guessing I overheated the transmission.. cel showed ratio codes for 1,2,3, and 5. I guess I better not try that relearn process again lol
