so i thought might be around 10-20 min job.
on ford 302, nope!
Can't even get a ratchet wrench on one, i had to use a normal box end on it to get it on and off.
Okay, get it all out clean it up and all that jazz. put on my gasket sealent. Put the thermo in there, slap the gasket on. slap it on the block after i cleaned the block off.
manage to get the bolts' torqued down and it looks good. Felt like it sealed good too. I got it in correctly. I double checked the box.
Put everything back together, start it up. antifreeze comes pouring out of the SEALED gasket.
I'm not sure how or why... The surface was clean on both sides. and i put on a good ammount of gasket sealer. Just pouring out like there is no gasket there.
Anyone have any clue why?
I've never had this problem befoure.
And if there are any suggestions on how to get the damn thing off easy let me konw. gonna check haynes manual about takeing it off tonight.
Did you get any sealant in the bolt holes? They could be hydrolocked and feel tight, but aren't in all the way. That's about all I can think of right off the top of my head. I think box wrenches are about the only way to get it off.
They are definatly in all the way, i can see the gasket sealent squish out from the 3 pieces comming together like they are suppost when you do that. That lets you konw there is a bond.
I guess i'll take it apart tommarow and load it down with gasket sealant.
I'ma have to go get a different bolt for the one too. cause it decided that it would fly outa my hand while i cleaned it off.
=*(
Just a shzatasd day after that.
The book here says that i did everything right.
Only thing i can think of is that the box was wrong on which way it goes it, so i better pull it off and check. Cause if it was backwards, it would explainfluid comming out.
ITs comming out of the block side.
Hmm maybe i did put it in backwards. STupid box did it backwards. =(
okay, just pulled it apart. much faster this time. I duno how it manages to be that way but it was.
Thermostat was in correctly.
The seal it looks like bound to the engine block well, but not to the other thingy. lol forgot its name.
So the seal was salvageable
i'm going to re seal it up and smack it back on.
gonna warm up the sealant right now
and i just smacked my injured knee on my desk *cries*
Only think I could think of is that maybe you did not let the sealant cure before you put the thermostat housing back on? Also use the sealant sparingly, a little goes a long way. personaly I would just use the paper gasket that came with the stat, just make sure both surfaces are clean.
yea. i got it. and to little sealant and you will never get a seal.
Some sealants go a long way. others dont, depends on what you use.
I have it working now though. Re tackled it in the same night and i'm still getting no heat, so i shall start new topic.
