Besides the annoying fact of having to connect/disconnect every time you go in and out of the truck, the problem of the wired CarPlay is that every time you connect your phone you are also charging it, which you might not need and long term can also reduce the lifespan of the battery. So I was using it but not that often…
While traveling for work I rented a couple of cars with wireless CarPlay, and I found out I really liked it, all the advantages and none of the cons. So I got myself a “CarlinKit 3.0” that transforms the wired into wireless. It’s a simple little box that you connect to the USB port, and after pairing once it’s automatically connecting every time you go in. I have been using for the past week or so and it works very well, no problems whatsoever. I really like it, navigation with Google Maps in Terrain mode is absolutely gorgeous!
With the promotion by Amazon it costed $80, a pretty good deal:
Is there a delay while this is connecting / loading? does it need to connect to carlin wireless network? if so, how does the transition work from your home network to the carlin kit wifi?
if you do need to charge your phone, I guess you need to use the charging port on dash or in the console, because if you connect it to the sync port, its prob going to get confused. Or maybe that could be done with a cable that blocks data...
Having an iPhone plugged into the USB port constantly for using CarPlay or not, which means it’ll be fully charged, does not affect the lifespan of its battery.
Glad to hear that your wireless CarPlay adapter is working well for you but be prepared for faster iPhone battery drain.

There’s a little delay when you get into the truck, some ten seconds or so, and then the bluetooth connection goes on automatically. No other connection necessary, so no messing with wifi.
I already added a wireless charging pad to the center armrest, if I need to recharge I simply put the phone on that. So everything is now wireless…

I keep reading a lot of different takes on that matter, I cant find a definitive answer about keeping the battery under charge continuously… So for the moment I try to keep batteries between 20% and 80%, which seems to be the safest advice. If I use the battery for CarPlay no problems…
Any case when I am in town I use the truck for relatively short trips, and it was really annoying plugging/unplugging for say a ten minutes grocery trip. And therefore I was only using it for longer trips. With the automatic wireless it’s now always on…
I had purchased the same one, I noticed that for whatever reason the phone wont connect to the trucks hotspot though? I returned it for that reason, I am assuming that the bluetooth connection was causing the Iphone to not connect to the hotspot?

I don’t use the truck’s hotspot, so I don’t know if it would make a difference… Mine is connecting flawlessly every time…
The charging circuitry and algorithm on all modern phones does not permit the battery to be charged when the battery is full. Lithium Polymer batteries don't suffer from memory either. Whether you have Android or Apple, the internal charging circuit monitors the capacity of the battery and shunts the power from the USB when the battery doesn't need it. It's a safety feature as lithium is very unstable and doesn't take well to over or under voltage, the former causing thermal runaway and fires. It's one of the reasons we now have chargers that can fast charge a battery using a higher current. So plug your phone in with a quality cable and don't worry that your battery life is being diminished.

Wireless car play uses wifi connection to the box/head unit, so you cannot connect to 2 wireless systems at the same time.
