I replaced my rad a couple weeks ago and it completely failed on me today!! Puked all the coolant out through a failed plug on the drivers top corner.
The EOT had reached 300F when I noticed and pulled over. It fired right up after sitting for a half hour waiting for my wife to arrive with water. Poured 5 gallons in and it cooled right down and drove perfect 5 miles home.
I plan to replace rad with a mishimoto, and change the oil. Anything else I should consider checking out? I wondered about the water pump running dry, I figured I might swap that out too.
On edit, 6/29/22: I found the root cause of the overheating issue was the water pump failed and lost coolant through the weephole, causing a boiling condition which overpressurized the system, and blew the radiator. New waterpump, motorcraft Tstat, oil change, and I am back trucking.
