The 4.6L engines are ***** on reliable but thirsty as hell and quite underpowered. I love the idea of an N/A V-6 such as an older 3.7L truck.

The 5.4l 2V engines are a good option. I had a 2003 F150 ccsb with a 2V 5.4l, it was a decent truck. Didn't get very good mileage though.

I will take reliability over fuel mileage any day. I had both 5.4 2 and 3 valve engines and 4.6s. The 5.4s got about 14 average and the 4.6s got about 17 average.

A 3.7 or 3.5 non turbo V6 are also great engines. The 3.3 with a 10 speed I would avoid, they just don't make a good combination in my opinion.
