Good to hear you got her up and running. Did you get her painted?

Got home checked the fuel line from the tank to the lift pump by pulling it off. Instantly covered in diesel, lines not clogged. Decided to pop off the filter feed line, bone dry. Cranked the truck it started squirting fuel, so I plugged it back into the filter hit the starter for a bit and the truck ran for about 30 seconds. At that point it died and a little hole on top of the lift pump blew w a bunch of diesel out. If I crank it fuel just blows out the weep hole. Decided to check the filter by pulling the bottom drain, it was a little dirty but no sediment pieces.
My question is, why would the lift pump fail like that? I plan to use a facet pump now but I want to make sure nothing else in the fuel system could have caused the lift pump to die.
When you bought your new engine, did you put a new lift Pump on it?
If so, maybe it is faulty. The Diaphram could have ruptured.
I don`t know of a weep hole in the pump. If it is leaking, you need to replace it.
It sounds like it is not pumping fuel, and this is your source of air.
There is also the rubber hose going in to it, I call it the Curley Q Hose".
If it is old and cracked, especially where the Hose Clamps are, it can suck air,
or leak.
If you still want to put the facet pump on, be sure to remove the Lift Pump, and
install a block off plate. There is a block off plate for a chevy engine that bolts on
to cover the hole in the block.

i agree...knowing that the LP failed, and how it failed, would be nice.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
On some trucks, pulling the bed is easier than dropping tanks.
It is just, with your nice new engine...there are things you've never had eyes-on. Fuel pick-ups and plumbing, fuel senders, condition of the fuel and fuel tanks on the inside.
Just sayin'

I used the Cherry Picker coming in from the rear. Lift it off drive forward, and then
set it on some saw Horses.
Place some card board, old Blanket between bed and cab so you don`t ding up things.
Here are some ideal doing a Google search.

I bought one of these Chicom frames.

Just need to get it balanced so it comes up straight.
I suggest to place some wood under the bed rail to
spread out the point of stress from lifting.

Thanks for the steps, I've used a cherry picker before although mine died lifting the diesel back into the truck. It folded the leg, and killed the cylinder (on the 1-1/2 ton setting). Luckily I have a brother, another friend and my brothers giant friend to call on for lifting the bed.
