I have a question about my 1993 Ford-F150 XLT. 2 Wheel Drive with a 302 V8. Every time I take off or slow down I get a winding up and winding down sound. When I take off from a dead stop my truck sounds like it is winding up, when I slow to come to a stop it sounds like my truck is winding down. Is this something to be concerned about? Is there something wrong with the transmission or what? Is this just a noise all Ford F-150 XLT's make? All the fluids are full and don't use any extra. The transmission does have overdrive too, if this helps any.
Example of sound: Do you know when a tornado siren goes off how it winds up to its highest pitch, then winds down as it goes off. This is the type of sound it is, a winding up and then winding down sound.
What transmission do you have?
If it’s the AOD, it’s a normal noise. Every vehicle I drive with that Trans makes noise similar to what you are talking about.
Not to sure what the noise is, but I think it’s just the way the gears are cut in the Trans, 1st gear just makes that noise.
Every Pre 97 Ford auto I have seen/heard makes that noise. Examples-1995 Mustang 3.8
1994 F150 5.8
1990ish Aerostar3.0
Even 1999&2001 Ranger with 4.0 and 3.0 respectively
