I have a Lund visor on my truck and I really like it. I like the way that it looks and I like the way that it shades the inside of the truck. But it has a tendency to create annoying wind buffeting noises that can get really tiring on a long road trip. Mostly on the driver's side upper corner but it drove my gf crazy on one long trip. It has even caused buffeting so bad that once in a bad wind and rainstorm while driving through Kentucky it pretty much ripped the driver's side windshield wiper arm off, when it would get to the top of its range the wiper arm would lift right off of the windshield and actually get stuck on the outside edge of the visor before slamming back down!
I thought about possible fixes such as drilling some holes in the visor but I really did not want to do that. Then one day I fixed the problem for good. Actually it was fixed for me. I took the truck in a drive through car wash. It was a brand new wash and working like a brand new wash and the water spray literally blew the clear plastic hood visor thing to bits. You know, those plastic things that go over the front of the hood. I know that you were not supposed to have them on there with a windshield visor but I thought that was only the old fashioned ones that stuck straight up. Those have been known to cause enough wind up under the windshield visor to rip them right off at speed. Mine was a low profile one that hugged the curve of the front of the hood and was supposed to be safe to use with windshield visors. Well, it was, it never ripped the visor off (although it killed one wiper arm) but it sure did cause an annoying buffeting sound that was very hard to pinpoint because it did not always do it, it seemed to depend on the speed and direction of the outside wind. But since the car wash blew my hood visor to smithereens the Bronco has been whisper quiet on the road. It was truly a godsend - I like to take road trips and sometimes that noise would become very irritating. But it's gone for good now because of course I do not plan to get another hood shield. Actually this all occurred last year, I just forgot to post about.
BTW - I've always been amazed at the lack of wind noise in my Bronco. Considering that it is shaped like a brick and has vent wing windows, it should have a lot of wind noise. Especially considering that a 1995 F150 long bed pickup that I bought brand new had a considerable amount of wind noise by design - my 1990 Bronco is pretty much the same shape and it is much quieter, even now with 140K and original weatherstrip than the F150 was brand new. Must have something to do with the smooth, closed, and shorter sides as opposed to the long open bed of the F150.
I had the same problem on my '95. I tore off the bug deflecter on mine and problem solved. i guess between the two the air flow was getting manipulated. Try that if you have one. Other then that i'm stumped.
I just posted this story in case there is anyone else who has a wind noise problem from their visor. If you do, and you have a hood shield as well, take off the hood shield. You'll thank me!
