Ive had this problem since last week. If I start the truck (‘94, 4.9 m5od 4x4) from cold, it starts VERY quickly, much quicker than it ever has. It seems to run fine, if not a little lean. If I turn the engine off and start it again, it takes more cranks and then sputters and I get terrible acceleration. If I cut the engine off and then wait an hour, it’s fine again.
I changed the ignition control module and that seemed to fix it for a day, but now it’s happening consistently.
I guess I should get a code reader, but does this situation sound familiar to anyone?

While I’m driving I can’t notice any change in timing. The change happens when I turn the engine off and on again. Then it’s consistently rough, unless I turn it off and let it sit an hour
If you would like to run diagnostic codes here is how to do it. A paper clip can serve as a jumper. Only run the key on engine off test. KOEO. You will also need to depress the clutch the entire test to get your codes.
