I bought my 2017 F250 new from the dealer. In 02/19 AC wasn’t working, was told “there was a hole in the condenser bc a bird flew into it” - wife ok’d the repair and dealership replaced, paid $1100, not covered under warranty of course. Then in 04/20, ac is only blowing hot air, was told “green dye on compressor,” so dealership replaced compressor assembly & recharged AC which cost me $1370.00. Now AC is blowing hot again. Dealership just called and said “the expansion valve failed and it caused the compressor to fail and shoot metal throughout the system. The compressor and condenser have to be replaced.” They are quoting me $3800.00. I have my truck serviced regularly. Should I really be having all these AC issues? Did the dealership miss something the first 2 times they worked on it? I’ve never had this many AC issues!!
I'd find a reputable A/C shop rather than the dealership---they've determined your truck is an easy target for quick money.
The orifice tube should have been replaced a few times now, the receiver/accumulator should have been replaced and the entire system flushed when the compressor supposedly failed.
These guys are molesting your wallet big time. I would gather my records, make an appointment with the dealership's service manager and plead the case your repairs to date are highly questionable and you might be due a partial refund.
