2001 f250 cc 3.55 gears,I have three questions, first I have had this truck for about 6 months, first time to pull 26 foot tt at about 65 mph rolling hills it kept kicking out of over drive so I locked it out,rpm jumper to about 2700 rpm, will it hurt to run at that rpm for a long trip, transmission temp stayed good ,abou 185 deg, second question, when I back up a small incline or upon a leveling board the motor will bog down has a hard time pulling upon the board gust like if you were taking off in a high gear, forgot the third question, hope Mark will jump in on this one,Thanks guys, this old man needs some help. here
That is the only way this truck will go up in reverse pushing a 5000 lb travel trailer, bog down.
"Bogging" in reverse is usually the torque converter clutch partially applying due to a lack of pressure caused by low fluid, filter tube leak, or internal pressure leak from worn sealing rings or damaged piston seals.
it kept kicking out of over drive so I locked it out,rpm jumper to about 2700 rpm, will it hurt to run at that rpm for a long trip
This will hurt your mpg a bit I'm sure. Might price a gear swap to some 3.73 or even 4.10. Would probably cure the OD problem and help your bogging in reverse too. I doubt it would take many $5+ gallons of diesel to justify the the swap
Ford never made that. Either someone swapped the gears, or you have it wrong. If it is a single rear wheel it is a 3.73:1 axle. If it is a dually it could be a 3.73:1 or a 4.10:1.
