The crash sensors are grounded where they are installed. There is a circuit in the airbag module to monitor the ground status for each sensor.
so you dont think they would benefit from unbolting and cleaning up where they mount lol. Im guessing that ground you mention is a separate code than 42? IIRC 42 is sensor fault
I just looked it up
:O
Well shes all fixed. $140 Dorman clockspring arrived earlier than $50 clockspring which im still waiting on.
I’m impatient so I installed the $140 part.. gonna return the other.
Anyways clockspring replacement took about 30minutes after waiting about 20 minutes after the battery disconnect. Easiest job I’ve done on this truck.
if I were you id upgrade to the later style key switch even tho its uglier, Ive never had good luck with that generation of lock cylinders. either twisting past crank, sticky, not turning well in cold(PO prob used a thick lube.. could never get it right), or just wear overall. im aware the plastic ear kinds are much better, but if you have a different key than doors you can have a hide a key and your truck isnt stolen in 2 seconds after a door is unlocked
The $50 clock spring from partsgeek finally arrived and I’m happy that I put in the $150 Dorman clockspring. Comparing the two the Dorman is much higher quality.
interesting to note the brown plastic clip that attaches to the ignition housing is different. The Dorman has a metal piece to it while the $50 does not.

must be those aluminum prices(Joke) but dorman to the save. people **** on dorman but its like a broken clock that is right twice a day but at constantly variable times and it seems to be one of the only clocks running (in parts stores)
Its funny a few weeks later my airbag light blinked again, this time with a count of "42" which was the same as your issue, anyway I sprayed some CRC electronic cleaner since you cant find a replacement sensor these days and it pretty much went away. it maybe came on one more time and then I just ignored it. Light hasnt come back on flashing code 42 in about 5 months now, who knows!
