Is there anything within an oem factory injector that can go bad sitting on the shelf for awhile. I recall seeing some information relative to them having internal o-rings, but that has been the only reference I've seen of such.

If the injector is properly lubricated and in a container or plastic bag, it has a shelf life of ~24 months that it can be put into service. After that, it may need to be inspected.
I was told this by a well known injector builder that participates on here from time to time.
I was inquiring because I had thoughts of buying some new/reman injectors and put them on the shelf as my injectors are at 266,000 miles.
I decided to run mine until they die, which may be another 100 - 200 thousand miles.
I still wonder what the difference is if they sit sealed on a shelf with testing fluid in them, vs sitting in a truck with diesel in them, being exposed to heat and running conditions… I would prefer for them not to sit a long time, but I a not convinced that would actually hurt them
The only thing that I could see being an issue would be the flexibility of the external O-rings for installation and sealing. If they are still soft and pliable, I wouldn't think twice about the age.
Thanks guys, I have a complete set of sticks from an F550 that had 35k-40k on the clock that were pulled years ago and have set on the shelf since. I also have the oem valve gaskets with harnesses and glow plugs from the same truck. My intent is to possibly put them in the Excursion and they would at the very least get new o-rings, but maybe also get a few or all of them tested. I just don't see how they could go bad...other than obvious metal deterioration...but there are people on this site that know more about this than I do...
Once installed injectors are fine for 25+years having diesel in them, what is the difference, other then having it replaced with fresh diesel when run?
