Was on approach to a bridge today with the truck driving normal than just cut down to about 1000 rpm drove normal for about 100 yards than did it again. When it happens the truck doesn't not run rough. I unplugged the icp and we made it home. No codes on the reader. There was some oil in the icp connector when I looked about 6 months ago. I figured it was accumulating there vs going through the sensor as the truck was doing great. Seems to me it's the ICP but a little confirmation especially with putins price hike (LOL)would be greatly appreciated. Could I take my truck on a 130 mile mostly highway round trip tomorrow with the sensor unplugged?
Rigcity, several years ago before retiring I was headed on a round-robin trip from east TN to Arkansas to TX and back for work. Shortly after leaving had some issues, disconnected ICP sensor and made the trip without any issues. The PCM defaults to a setting that will allow you to continue. I wasn’t towing/hauling anything so I can’t speak to how the truck might have performed under those conditions. OEM part replacement absolutely!
Can you check and/or read codes set...that will get you closer to seeing if it is in fact an ICP issue. I've had no problems with the Zibbex ICP units that are made in Mexico like the oem Motorcraft units are, and not the cheap chinese knock offs...
Unfortunately the truck today went down to 1000 rpm while at 2000 cruising on the highway for a few seconds with the icp unplugged. The truck showed no codes initially. I've put about 150 miles on with the icp unplugged.
What are you using to read codes? It would be good to catch this rpm drop in the act with a FORScan log if possible, along with all the other engine parameters.
