After my second radiator replacement in a year I decided I should replace the water pump and coolant temp sensor. Well after two OEM ford sensors and no reading it seems to be a wiring issue I don't want to deal with at the moment.
Any suggestions on separate coolant temp gauge and where to tap into ?
Aftermarket coolant temp sensor with blue wire in right, under the upper radiator hose fitting in water pump housing. There's originally a plug in that location. Someone else will chime in for threads and plug socket.

I would expect that to be the same size at the OEM coolant sensor, which is in there to the left of that upper hose fitting. And since he'd be abandoning that, he may as well use it.
And counterfeits abound on fleabay and amazon, if it didn't come from a reliable source, it may not be OEM. I got one off of fleabay and they were quick to refund my money when it didn't work and I called them on it.
Is this only for Diesel engines? Where is the factory gauge based off of then?
Dash gauge gets signal from the 10884 part I referenced above. That sensor fits into the water pump. That's only for the dash.
The PCM gets engine temp data separately. For AT trucks the data comes from an oil temp sensor (12A648) on the back of the HPOP reservoir. For MT trucks there is a sensor on the front cover near the CPS that reads coolant temp.
It is possible to select and view "ECT" on AT trucks with scanner, but the data is garbage. You must monitor EOT. But ECT monitored on MT trucks is the same as what the PCM sees.
Luckily Ford made it complicated so we could have this little chat.
Or you could just ( bypass the Ford stuff ) and install a secondary ect sensor/ gauge.
I was installing a isspro transmission temp. Gauge in my pod. , so I just ran a separate sensor and tapped into my coolant bypass filter housing and ran a wire to the gauge.
Installed a mini toggle switch to view both trans temp and coolant temp in one gauge.
Works great and is accurate based on my observations daily driving to work and back.
I don't even look at the dash gauge anymore.

Really? I thought the PCM uses transmission fluid temp (TFT) for calculations in AT trucks and coolant temp from that extra sensor in MT trucks. Not saying I'm right. Just asking for clarification.

I thought that AT trucks used oil temp and wondered what MT trucks used so I'm all ears (or eyes @ @ as the case may have it).
