Looking to buy an ambulance- miles are 105,000 but has 5,319 hours from idle- I know that every idle hour equals to about 30 mi. What kinda risks am I taking/ what wear should I be watchful of if I made this buy?
If they have maintenance records that is a very good sign.
When you go look at it make sure it the engine is cold. Warm engine will hide a bad glow plug system. Not critical just something to fix.
Listen to the engine as it spins before starting. The cranking speed should be steady. If it surges it might be low compression in one or more cylinders. Also once started remove the oil fill cap and place it upside down the oil fill tube. It will probably rattle off, that's OK, but if the internal pressure blows it off that suggests engine blowby.
