Transmission cooler

I recently purchased a 2000 stock 2wd with automatic, I tow 10000lbs plus often. I will be adding gauges soon. I know generally everybody does a 6.0 cooler. I happened to see this was wondering if anybody has used something like this.

Not nearly as many rows as the 6.0 cooler, tried and true.

What about running factory plus this cooler a lot cheaper than 6.0

Thats also much smaller than a 6.0 cooler. And won’t be “almost” a bolt in.

Folks I’m sure have done what you’re considering. Could be some extra flow loss by stacking coolers but I’m sure it would work.

When I did mine I used the part store brand 6.0 cooler. Don’t remember the cost.

Leave the radiator cooler in the loop as it provides very efficient cooling of the fluid.

Here's an opinion....and it works for me. Put the gauges on and see the temps first. My rig, which I sometimes gross 22k at never goes over 210.....on the little OEM cooler.

I think I like this option not really trying to go to deep down the rabbit hole on this truck.

210F is pretty hot AT fluid.
I have 6.0 AT oil cooler, as well as external filter in my F350

AT transmission repairs are expensive, 6.0 AT coolers are cheap in comparison.

Just my opinion, each to his own.

Water boils at 212. I seem to recall that according to @Mark Kovalsky at 235 things were starting to get important.

I run about 40° below engine oil temp with the 6.0 cooler. Previously trans temp would be higher than engine temp when towing. Sorry guys, it’s been a while so I can’t remember all the details.

I also don't remember exact numbers, but I think 180 was pretty common. Now, w/ 6.0 cooler it sits at 140 almost all day.
I did an store brand cooler I believe.

I don't think I'd stack the factory cooler and an aftermarket. Just get the size you need. Less connections, less chance of failure.

210°F is not hot at all for a modern transmission. The trans can run at 220°F all day long with no ill effects. You can go as high as 250°F for up to a half hour at a time.

Do not stack coolers. Replace the air to oil cooler with the 6.0L cooler. Having three coolers can cause too much restriction This will cause less cooling than the original, and also restrict lube flow.

I understand no argument - is year 1998 - 2000 4R100 AT considered a "modern transmission" ?

My truck has 6/98 mfg. date and as far as I know the AT is still original with 220,000 miles and works good.

Yes, I consider that a modern transmission.

In my opinion, in the Ford world, the last old school transmission was the C6. It was last produced in 1996.

It seems like a lot of guys have used the Dorman cooler for the later trucks. I'm thinking the 6.0 trans cooler.
