I just got a new (very old) 1966 F-250 truck. The truck has a lot of issues or how I phrase it... it's a project. Anyway, the starter is barely spinning the engine and makes a lot of noise. I pulled the starter and the shaft is super loose. Guess the bushings are gone. Any recommendations for a new replacement starter? Any experiences with high torque mini starters? What is the standard tooth count of a 1966 352 flywheel?
The part number of the old starter is D5AF EA 6B12B.
I put a high torque mini starter on a customers 390 in his galaxie 65, to make room for the headers. Same block so, yeah, go for it.
I don't recall the brand of starter but it was one of the low to mid priced ones on summit racing.

1966 F250 CS V8, Auto I had 3 "rebuilt" starters fail in less than 5K miles after restore. The parts supplier I bought them from was very good about giving me a replacement. Lifetime warranty. But I got tired of replacing them and bought a new starter from NAPA. Now 5 years and 7k miles with no issues. No more cheap rebuilt starters for me.
just my experience. NAPA gives a life time warranty also.
In my truck I am running the starter that was on it when I bought it three? Years ago. The header sits right on it and I'm surprised it starts every time I look at it. Wish I knew where it was from.
