Starter ID

I asked this on the FE forum too. I just pulled my starter when I noticed it was loose and two ears were broken.
Will a standard starter work in its place? I haven't seen one like this before. FE motor, supposedly a 390.
Thanks.

1963/76 FE starter is the same, A/T - M/T makes no difference. 1958/62 FE starter uses the HUGE Bendix inertia starter drive.

Thanks so much for the responces and info. I think who ever put the set up in the truck cobbled some things together. The block casting #
put the engine at 1967 or latter and it's in front of a T-98.
ND, Did the latter 292 Y-blocks use the same starter? I've found some listings for the the older starters on ebay and some give parts #s but
I wonder if they are correct. Would you know if parts are interchangable?
Thank you.

No.

These are probably the ID engineering numbers marked on the starter itself.
292 uses a different starter than the FE's. T-98 won't bolt to an FE engine, so you have the Warner T-18, introduced in 1965.

The numbers noted in post # 5 are ID engineering numbers, not part numbers and are 292 related.

Thanks for the starter info.
What is the shift pattern for the T-18? Mine is right and up towards the dash.

Another question for ND, Do you know what would be the correct part # for the starter I'm looking for? I haven't been able to find any on mine.
Thank you.

This part is in the wrong box, since the part number is for the NP435/T19 4-speed ball, but one of you Clark guys need this! Although 4 and 5th/OD might be opposite some.

There are several part numbers, because Ford updates them, but you will not find a part number on any part after 1956. Just casting or ID engineering numbers, when applicable.

1958/62 FE starter uses the HUGE Bendix inertia starter drive, shown as 11350 in lower pic.

1965/72: T-18 = Reverse is up, towards the dash // New Process 435 = Reverse is down, towards the seat.

Circa 1973, T-18 & NP435 share the same shift pattern, reverse is down, towards the seat.
