So, I am now 3 1/2 years into a weekend project to swap from EFI to carb. Broken bolts, heads that Ford could not identify, new tranny etc has caused this to be more extended a project than I wanted. Mostly done now, finishing up little stuff. My question, now that the EFI is gone, is there anything else in the truck that is controlled by the computer, or can I junk that too? By the way, for those that called me crazy back when I started, this Bronco has never, since the day it was brand new, had the power, torque and performance that it has now. First time ever I broke the tires loose from a stop, wasn't trying to spin them, just wanted to see what the new acceleration would be like. Put a ZF5 in place of the AOD, love this new truck, hated it before. So, anyway, can the computer be scrapped or are there other things it controls? I can not find a definitive answer anywhere, Thanks.
P.S. Next weekend I am swapping the front clip for the one off an F100 I just junked. Hopefully I will be able, after that, to forget the biggest mistake of my life, trading my 81 Bronco 351 Cleveland 4bbl, for "the new and better" EFI 87 Bronco. The "friend" who helped talk me into that mistake (a Ford salesman) I have not spoken to since.
The computer controls the fuel, spark timing and Check Engine Light. Since you went with a carb. those main functions are now bypassed assuming you converted the ignition. As far the fuel equation is concerned the computer controls the fuel pump relay. If you have wired around that, safely I hope, you are good to go.
