I have a 1990 5.8 big Bronco and it is lookin' like I need a computer, Where is the best place to buy it from, How much will it cost 'california", does my bronco have only one of them ? thanks-
when the key is on the engine cranks but no start. you can hear the fuel pump running, it runs for 5 to 10 min. and then you can hear the "click" of the fuelpump relay and the truck runs fine...... owner before me replaced the fuel pump and filter and relay, ive checked fuel pressure and its fine-
no, the truck has the ignition key turned on and the pump is running but when you crank the engine it will not start. Every time i want to start bronco i have to put the key in, turn to run, waitlike 5 or 10 min. with the pump running or it will just crank, when the click of the relay is heard the pump is no longer running and the bronco starts and runs great-
I already rreplaced the relay "the little square cube by the brake booster" A guy I met came by the house and tested the fuel pressure and said that it was perfect- I dont remember the actual numbers... i think 40 or 45 ??????? he tested the regulator too which is new, it was good-
Honestly, PCMs go bad so rarely I would really hate to see you buy one and it doesn't fix the problem.
Pressure at the rail should be 35. It sounds more like a wiring issue. It could also be a bad connection at the computer itself. I've seen water get in the plug and cause corrosion and poor connections.
one time my buddy disconnected the battery and reconnected it, the truck started just fine several times.... this is a real bummer cause the truck was such a good score, fullsise 1990 xlt- never off roaded "and when i got home i saw that it was true" never wrecked or even dented- i just de-carboned the poor thing and put a QUALITY timingchain in it.... it runs like showroom ! The truck cost me 500 bucks, I just have to get over this starting problem.
By pass the relay and send constand power to the fuel pumps and see how that works.. (you can open up the wires without cutting them and just put 12v to it) If it starts all the time like that, then you know you have a relay / wiring problem..
