From my latest work trip, stopped to top off fuel before going to job site.
Ran in the 75-80 MPH range for most of the miles, mostly interstate, some town slow downs before getting to the interstate, always on cruise.
No head wind, very light winds when it was blowing.
This is the also the first trip after installing the centramatics, maybe they helped???
This is finally in the range of my previous 2015 RAM 2500 Cummins.
617 miles, 28 gallons, 22 MPG.
I'd take 22 MPG every time!
The best MPG truck I ever owned was a 1992 3/4 ton 4X4, 6.5L turbo diesel, 5 speed manual GMC... With an overdrive splitter/transmission (I put on it), basically made it into a 9 speed manual transmission...
13.4 MPG average per tank, (per year) pulling my 26.6' Citation 5th wheel...
23.4MPG empty highway average per tank (per year)...
Wow, I have the same rear end and size tires, but mine isn't even close to that! Granted, most of my driving is city driving, so it's not expected, but even on longer all highway miles, traveling at 65-70 mph my best was 18.87 mpg. But, we did just average 12.76 mpg with our camper over 1508 miles driving mostly 63-67mph. There was one 80 mile stretch that we sat at 50 mph the whole time. But, I am just over 7000 miles now, so maybe the mpg will get better...
It's really hard to believe but my '05 Duramax would get 20mpg at 70 mph, so maybe not so far fetched.
that’s actually not surprising at all, the first Duramax with EGR which I think would be the LLY was really efficient and siginificantly so more than the LB7. something about the new turbos they had, so even with the EGR added on the LLY is still well liked by GM people, injector issues aside. Not having DPF really helps.
It must be deleted you ain’t getting 22 with all the emissions crap running 75-80 sorry don’t even see it with 3.31’s
if he was doing all this without having to come to full stop too much, the slow down he mentioned is ideal to boost the mileage because the motor can basically idle and keep it going at 45-55 and get really good mileage in the process, especially if he had no regen in that tank.
Sounds like another 7.3 syndrome gas invasion again.
Well it’s a two way street, if he drove a 7.3 with 3.55 on the same route under that same condition he would l probably get 17-18 mpg, which would cause a few accusation of cheating from the Diesel or Bust tribe.
IT'S NOT DELETED IT IS 2WD...less driveline drag makes a difference.
In the small towns I go through, I had to come to a full stop about 4 times, IIRC.
Best fuel economy before, over the same route, was about 20.5, usually in the 19.5 range.
I believe the centramatics and the slightly taller tires have combined to make the difference, as well as the lack of any heavy winds during this run.
That's great. But it's the AVERAGE per tank that counts IMO. Seems like this truck is actually getting more like 20.6 MPG overall... When you average out the three MPG numbers posted.

That was the average per tank for THAT tank.
Overall mileage would be WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY less because half the time I am towing big travel trailers.
And, you could include HUNDREDS of fill ups, but that isn't what this thread was about, it was about a BEST SO FAR, and that is exactly what I posted.
Also, I just remembered, that tank included a trip through Wendy's drive-thru for breakfast, probably 5 minutes of idling.
Thanks for sharing. It's impressive that Ford increased the fuel mileage on the 20'+ diesels. I know my '12 won't make that mileage, but it sure is a lot better than those 6.4's.
