I’ve had over 35 vehicles and do most of my own work on them, every rear wheel drive or 4X4 vehicle I’ve ever owned has been jacked up by the rear center section multiple times with no issues. I will not use masonry blocks of any type for vehicle support, either proper jackstands or wood cribbing placed correctly.
Not bad but I been told not to jack the vehicle up buy the differential , well at least not by the carrier housing.. The idea was that it could push the axle up in the middle, not sure how true this is but really don't want to find out.
The video wasn't really a how to lift an excursion. Just some things that I ran into that I haven't seen documented. Thanks for the feedback.
consider this,
some kid is going to “youtube” how to jack up his Excursion and find out he can use garden blocks, when it fails his excuse will be, “ i heard it was ok, I don’t know I saw it on YouTube”
I am not trying not to be a dick here and I totally get that most people didn’t grow up in the auto or machine repair business so best practices may not be familiar to them, but this it what the forum is for, The transfer of knowledge.
Use 4x4 or 4x8 timber if you need cribbing.
Garden blocks are not ok as cribbing. They easily crumble and fail.
