I bought a 99 F-350 Dually and the rear leaf spring has three broken leafs on the drivers side. I started on the project yesterday and ran into some problems. I decided to do the good side first. I thought I could pull the front down and just pivot the shackle down to pull the bolt out of the rear of the spring. Well the shackle didnt pivot down that far so i pulled the bolt out of the shackle finally after about two hours of fighting it. Then I had to use a come-along to pull the spring pack out of the shackle. Does anyone know of an easier way to get the other side done? Any tricks?
if you are doing this in your driveway, the easist way is to jack the truck up from the rear once you have the ubolts unbolted from the axel. once the ubolts are undone jack the truck up from the hitch. you will start to see the axel seperate from the leafs.(might have to unbolt shocks too). once everything is seperated you should have no problem unbolting the leaf springs from the shackles. just unbolt both sides and lift the spring out....to put it back in you might have to use that comealong to get everthing lined back up but i never had to. hope that helps
Well got the other side all unbolted and leaf pack out. Took me about a half hour is all. I think the major problem was everything was in a bind on the other side.
