I am in the process of the infamous timing job on the 5.4 3v, and ran into a slight problem. I am ready to pull off the crank sprocket but it isn’t coming off. I currently have the timing chains and phasers off and it is in the 7 o’clock position (meant to get in to 6 o’clock but went a little too far). I don’t know if I’m just being stupid, but in Ford Tech Makuloco’s video he pulls it off no problem. Mine gets stuck towards the end of the crank shaft. I am wondering if it is because I went a little too far and it has to be in the 6 o’clock position to pull it off? If so, would it mess anything up if I just rotate it to the 6 o’clock without my timing chains on? Maybe I’m just being an idiot, but he pulled it off so easily and smoothly in the video but mine gets stuck.
It could be as simple as silicone stuck on key way. I have pulled many sprockets and never an issue. Some did hang on, but usually a pull and they slide right off.. Unless key way is partially dislodged and jamming the sprocket, it should slide right out. Nothing holding in place except key way.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Should pull off very easily . I think it could be the sealant used on crank seal that may be holding it . Unless someone beat on the end and mushroomed it . It may be stuck on key way some how ,a puller should get it off ,new one should slide right on . If not you may have to sandpaper shaft .
You may have to feel it to see if it has a ridge on it .
