timing chain

I'm a novice here but learning as I go with mistakes. I really appreciate anyone helping me here. I have a 352....

I need to match up the marks on the timing chain and crankshaft. I know the marks have to match but can I match them up when both are not facing straight up. In otherwards if both are at 4 oclock, will that do it?

If not...how do I turn the crankshaft? I do not want to turn from the harmonic balancer nut since it is fine threaded. When I installed the pistons and rods I turned the crankshaft from the holes where the flywheel connects but now that I have all rods tightened, it is darn near impossible to do I imagine. Besides, I have all of that done and do not want to do it again. Yeah I know, don't tell me I should of lined up the timing and crank when I had the pistons off and the crank was easy to turn. SUggestions or will my 4 oclock thinking be okay?

Thanks in advance, jim

Don't do it Jim, the crank turns twice as much as the cam, it will be way off. (Funny thing is, that's how you set the timing on a Y-block, 12 chain links apart.)

The timing marks are supposed to line up with each other. The dot on the cam gear is at 6:00 and the dot on the crank gear at 12:00.

You should still be able to manually turn over the engine, try it. If it's too tuff then something is already wrong.
