I could not find a thread on battery voltage being too high. My batteries are 3 months old, Walmart 850's. My alternator is 4-1/2 years old, Carquest 140 amp/58 mm pulley, FICM from Ed. Everything else is original or stock. I usually run 13.3 to 14.5 volts on my forscan battery vlt output when fully warmed up at highway speeds. The other night while driving around 70-75 mph, my voltage was fluctuating up and down from 13.5 to 15.2. I didn't notice it till the end of a nearly 200 mile trip. It never stayed over 15 for more than a couple of seconds. FICM maintained steady 48-49 volts. Do I need to be concerned about my voltage being too high? Is this a sign of the alternator starting to go out? Or am I over thinking it?
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks Jack. It does have warranty, so I'll get that taken care of. I'm assuming they will bench test it and see the issue. Hoping it's not one of those situations where they say it's working fine because it's charging (albeit too much).
I've never used Forscan for real time data, but also in Torque Pro you can select gauges that will capture min and max, perhaps Forscan has a feature like that? When I get where I'm going I can take a screen shot and save it for review later - like this:

That's a nice feature. I'll have to see if Forscan has that capability.
I’ll throw my experience in, a Bosch 140A unit and an over drive pulley really helped boost the weak idle output on my excursion with head lights on and both blower motors full tilt when hot. I was hitting 12.7-12.9v now I never go below 13.5 Amazon and it was reasonably priced. eBay the pulley for a few bucks. 8 rib for the diesel.
Well it took me a while but finally got my alternator warrantied out and replaced. Voltages are back in the "normal" range. It was a bit of a challenge with Advance Auto because I ordered the alternator off of their website and picked it up at the store 4-1/2 years ago. AA only keeps online purchase records for 2 years. So they conveniently could not find the history on my purchase. Luckily, I had the paper receipt. Keep your receipts if you buy from them. Even then, it was a challenge as the counter guy said he could not warranty it out even though it had a limited lifetime warranty. Lifetime refers to the expected lifetime of the alternator he said. Not the truck. But he could not tell me what that expected lifetime was. I escalated to a higher up and finally got a replacement with a new receipt and in store purchase number. Now, I should not have issues with warranty according to the mgr.
