My '99 with only 65k miles isn't compressing very well anymore, so I'm looking to replace the compressor (yes, it I do have gauges and it is indeed the compressor). I checked RockAuto and the Motorcraft one is st00pid expensive! There's also a Four Seasons one I'm looking at as well as Denso. IIRC, Denso is the Toyota OEM, so if it's the same quality as Toyota parts, and is 1/2 the price of the Motorcraft, I'd take the Denso. Whichever route I go, I'll at least pick up an orifice tube and maybe a dryer as well just to do the job right. Thoughts on compressor brands? https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ompressor,6628
Denso is a good brand but only the OEM get Tier 1 products. The aftermarket supply is lower level than oem. The same for all suppliers no matter the big name, if it has a big name on it that part is required to live up to spec for replacement part. If you have a radiator/AC shop around check on what brand they are using for replacements. They don't want come backs. OT but if your compressor has puked, your condenser is contaminated, and the newer style parallel flow cannot ever be flushed completely. The crap sits in the tanks only to be free another day, a flush will just flow through the few open tubes. JMO
I sucked it up and bought the Motorcraft one and also a dryer, orifice tube, and flushing solution. I already have a flush canister and R134a from a previous job, so not much to it but to do it! I'm still awfully disappointed the OG compressor didn't even last 65,000 miles though.
