Does anybody have a example of what ball joint press kit I need to get to put my upper and lower ball joints on? I got my xrf ball joints in this afternoon. I was thinking to get the master kit from advanced. But I've heard some folks say that not all kids come with what you need for these trucks. Any advice?
Powerbuilt kit 46 is the name of the kit i have seen most people on forums mention. So i just rented that a few days ago to do balljoint on both sides. Doing everything else in there as well, new hubs, axle seals, u joints. But I got the wrong u joints so I'm at a standstill until the new ones I ordered come in.
I will say that using that press correctly, using the big Milwaukee 1/2" impact that is rated to 1,400 ft lbs torque is what I used to press the old ones out and the new ones in. Took about 5 seconds for each taking it out and putting in. Unbelievable how easy this entire job has been.
Gotcha, thanks! I'll pick up some Moly Grease.
What brand do you like? To be honest I've never even heard of Moly grease I've always just used Lucas red-n-tacky. What is the difference between a Moly Grease and a lithium grease for instance?
Powerbilt Kit 46 is what I use as well. On my last rental effort, I simply kept the kit and let my "rental price" pay for its non-return, and did so because it was a brand new and unused kit prior to my "rental", and at the time, the cost was much less than it is today and I also had three '02/'03 Superduty vehicles in my garage. It's really nice to not have to go to the store to rent, know that I have a solid kit, and it doesn't take up much room in my tool storage cabinet.
