Ok so I really am not an expert but I’m not afraid to try things. I completely tore down my 6.0 and bulletproofed it and it’s now my favorite truck I’ve ever owned. However I have an issue with my son in laws truck. 2006 F350. All of the sudden the turbo quit building boost. It not only doesn’t build boost but never attempts to spool up at all. The truck has issues, but so did mine and I never lost boost or not much anyway. I pulled the turbo and tore down the exhaust side to make sure nothing was stuck. It’s fine. Everything about the turbo itself seems fine. I had another turbo off of a truck that was running fine. I checked it out before installing it and still nothing. I tried the relearn thing before I took the turbo off and got nothing out of it. I don’t 100% know how these turbos function but it seems like to me I should either get something on the low end or the top end even if the VGT isn’t functioning completely correct. It seems to make no attempt at doing anything. It does spin at idle. I’ve checked by pulling the air cleaner off and watching it. Again the truck does have other issues. What else could prevent it from working properly that I should check next?
Get a scan tool that can pull PCM values and retrieve codes.
Compare EBP, MAP, and Baro at KOEO to see if any sensor is "biased".
Check the EBP tube and make sure it isn't plugged.
Make sure the EBP sensor isn't plugged up.
Check the MAP sensor hose for leaks/holes/tears.
Make sure the nipple on the intake where the MAP hose attaches isn't plugged.
If all is ok with the above, check for leaks in the charge air system and exhaust system.
