Hello everyone,
New guy to the forum, and new to the F100 world, however not new to the classic Ford world. I own a couple of classic Mustangs ('65, '72, and '73), but I recently acquired my grandfather's '72 F100 (2wd, 302 with a T18).
I've been doing some research and even found a neat write up on FORDification website, however I still have some questions.
1) Does my steering column still need to be shortened? I understand that the older vehicles came with bendix steering box, but since my '72 already has a saginaw box, do I still need to shorten it? Is the power steering saginaw box different than the manual one? I know in the Mustang world, they were/are, since the power steering box has a quicker ratio...
2) Do I need to swap the firewall column mount? From what I gather, it seems like it varies by application... and finally
3) Has anyone used one of these "kits" before? Seems a bit pricey, but might be worth it? What do y'all think?
You will need to shorten your column as the writeup says, or find a Saginaw PS column. The Saginaw PS box is 2 inches longer than the manual box. And you will need the PS firewall mounting bracket. The kit requires you to shorten your column or find a Saginaw PS column. Forget anything about Mustangs as they are totally different from trucks.
