Ok..we all know what this is about....I've taken the EGR valve off and cleaned it...checked the port...seems clear...a new sensor....I've tried to make sure lines r clear...no vacuum leaks that I can find...any suggestions would be sweet.....should I do a new egr because it's bad even after cleaning? Help...I've got till end of month....oh yes...I'm in California.....I know I know
I feel your pain. I didn't get my emissions fixed in time my registration was for March so I can't even drive right now. I tried cleaning out my EGR months back because its such a pain to get off and it clearly didn't help. Check the solenoid on the top of the valve for electrical but you probably just needed the new valve.
Since the OP is posting a P0401 error that means their truck is OBD-II. Those trucks use a different EGR valve than the OBD-I trucks. Less of them out there so the price goes up accordingly. Error P0401 indicates the EGR gas flow is too low. That signal is derived from two sample tubes in the EGR tube itself. Those two tubes are connected to the DPFE sensor via silicone hoses. If the DPFE sensor tests good then the next step is checking the silicone hoses for cracks. If those are good the next area to look is the EGR tube itself. Could be cracked or the sample tubes are plugged.
