Will a 1968 power steering column with auto shifter bolt right into my 1966 with auto trans that was converted to power steering?
I have a ton of slop in the shifter arm to where it will actually pop out of park and into reverse on its own if running. Not a good thing, and to my knowledge there is no easy fix for this. So I found a column from a 68. Will this fit without any modifications? The only thing I guess is that my stock column was shortened and had a borgeson joint added, but since it’s a power steering column wouldn’t the length be correct anyway and so the 68 column wouldn’t need shortening?
So I’m thinking this might be the most direct way to fix the column shift arm slop. That’s really the only reason I would want to swap columns, so if there is any easier way to fix this problem, I’d love to hear it. Thanks!
I installed a column from a 1970 F100 that had power steering and an automatic. And the 1968 is the same. It bolted in fairly easily. The bracket on the column that bolts to the dash is not the same, so you will need longer bolts. That is assuming you have the powering steer firewall bracket and not the manual bracket. That may not be enough to alleviate your problem if your 1968 column has play in it. You might want to rebuild your current column.

Thanks Rick! And do you happen to know if I can use the steering wheel from the 66 on the 68 column?
