steering column swap

i am thinking about changing out the steering column in my 1978 f150 4x4 for a newer one with tilt steering and without the shifter on the column. does any one know which of the newer model truck steering columns will fit my truck? thanks

a standard trans ...Tilt from a 78/79/80

or
a key switch on the column Tilt column from any 80's standard trans pickup with some retro-fitting.

i have an automatic trans that i am moving off of the column. the socket that makes the shifter on the column broke and i was thinking of swapping to a floor shift anyway...

Then just pop the roll pin out of the shifter arm then.

I'm still interested in knowing if anyone has done this. I've got my hands on a standard Trans 88 column, and was going to try it out this weekend. Two question i have are will the steering shaft hook up to my steering box, and will the column boot work with my firewall? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to pull up IDIDIT's catlog. I think they have one on-line. It shoudl give you the year range for the various setups that they sell, which you could probalby convert to stock columns.
