steering column, starting issue

hello everyone. My 91 f350 idi auto. the linkeage is off so i have to pull up on the shifter lever on the steering column before starting. Something seems like its been worn out because now the only way it will start is if i pull up on the steering column shifter lever, and at the same time i push on the top of the steering wheel which rocks the steering column just a little bit back. my question, is there an adjustment or am i going to have to replace my steering column soon? thanks for any info.

sounds like the bearings in the column are shot. you could rebuild yours, or pup a new column in. i just replace the column, i can get them from the junkyards for under $40 and it is only a 1/2 hour job to replace it.
