The question has been asked yet some say yes some say no, so: Can you adjust the idle with FORscan or not?
I see desired idle is 585rpm and I'll go as low as 500rpm and lose oil pressure. I found a vacuum leak and fixed that and may still have another small one that shows up as the truck warms up. Yet, I'd like to know if FORscan can adjust the idle.
FORscan can't do a whole lot in the 04-08 trucks, and, yeah, I can't see how you'd ever adjust the idle speed with it.
It's fantastic for pumping ABD (as-built-data) into a different instrument cluster (but you cannot adjust odometer) and that's about it as far as I can tell
Well, it's supposed to be adjusting the desired rpm at the PCM. I know some 'big boy' units can and I may just head to a shop and have them do it. Just hoped FORscan could.. Great program for diagnostic's!
If you're losing oil pressure at 500rpm .....I feel like you're barking up the wrong tree?
I'm awaiting my cousin's smoke machine or may build one to test for vacuum leaks. Till then tweaking the desired idle would help.
Now, what do you suggest?
Oil pressure comes back with as little as 30rpm increase. Which is still below desired of 585rpm. I've been recording live data on test runs to review once back in the shop. I believe it's a gasket or unclamped hose due to it has to be warmed up before it happens. No other issues happening other than won't hold idle and loss of oil pressure. It shows 'low pressure', not a complete loss. FORscan does 'not' show psi, just shows low once past it's threshold.

Reason: Added the word not
If you are losing oil pressure it may be tied to bad tensioners ruptured gaskets is a common problem . That fix is using the old style steel ratcheting tensioners with no gaskets to fail . The other is to put the melling hv oil pump in ,I have the melling m360 as the hv wasn't out when I did timing.
I have built the diy smoke machine off you tube using a steel paint can / a small compressor at 2psi , clear tygon tubing to brake booster fitting . Worked great -found vacuum leak on wifes explorer that we couldn't find for a year . It was a purge valve underneath battery . My friend found his on the gas tank pump seal . -bad from factory .

When the PCM can’t make the engine idle RPM match the desired idle RPM, take a look at the IAC duty cycle and at the fuel trims. The IAC might be maxed out due to an issue with its pintail or a PCV issue. Likewise, high fuel trims at idle may indicate a vacuum leak is leaning out the idle mixture pulling the RPMs down.

Whoops! What vehicle are you working on?b
Sorry thought I had saved a signature with vehicle info.. Should be there now. 2004 F150 XLT 4.6l
I've been chasing the trims due rough low end/lower rpm rough running and found a vacuum leak with visual inspection. About to do a smoke test to check for any small leaks still present. I replaced the throttle body last year with new IAC.
I will replace the PCV, seems it should be every 50K or so anyway.. Hmm.. Wouldn't that be a simple fix!
This low oil pressure worries me ,it would behoove you to drop oil pan and clean oil pickup. This would also give you a look at lower end as well as finding broken guides etc .
Yeah I'm guessing '04 4.6 would be a 2V? Even so they are definitely not immune to broken guides. Our '03 had the pump pickup packed with pieces of guide at ~150k
@redfishtd & @WWR I went through an engine swap last year. Trust me, guides are good. We took apart, rebuilt and resembled the replacement. Upgraded several parts along the way..
Today was too nice a day to waste in the garage, especially when it does run fine, except those stops while in gear. Tomorrow is going to rain all day so good day to pickup the few items I require to make the smoke machine and test for possible other vacuum leaks.
I also refused to pay $38 for a $9 part so I ordered the PCV valve. Here next week. $9, free ship and it's a OEM replacement not a knock-off. I'll wait...

I may get to that. I don't think it's the pickup yet.. Dropping the pan is not as easy as it sounds.. Been there. If the pressure dropped out at higher rpm, then I'd be inclined to do so. I mean even 20rpm higher. Not dis-missing, mind ya. I may just get there.
