I'm running wires for better speakers in the rear pillars (the up high mount location) and trying to figure out if the truck takes a 5x7, 6x8, or maybe a 6x9 in that location. I'm seeing all 3 sizes called out and want to make sure. If it's a 6x9, then I probably need to plan for a second amp to drive them appropriately.
For the front doors I'm seeing a 5 1/4", 6 1/4", 6x8. I think these sizes would all be within the range of the amp I'm going to run.
I'm impressed sure they 6x8 that I put in mine. The issue with 6x9s is going to be the depth. Any if those sizes can fit. Just depends on make and model of the speaker. Which further complicates things.
I went with a nice set of kenwood speakers. I also have a 4 channel amp powering them. They sound great, I run a single kicker sub through a seperste small amp also for low end.

where did you mount the sub? I haven’t found much room for one unless I move or remove a seat.

Most 5x7 have dual mounting for 6x8. Buy whatever brand tickles your ears the most.
Thank you, that’s what I needed. I’ll probably go 6x8 so long as they aren’t too deep.
Crutchfield has a great site and good prices. Last I recall, they show what will fit your specific application.
Sub wise, I have been looking at those flat ones with a built in amp. I just need a bit of bottom end and I THINK it may fit under the rear seat on the 92 and 96. The 88 is flat to floor.

Crutchfield is how I ended up here asking the question. They were all over. I blame ford and their many different speaker mounting options/locations. I'll look for the flat ones, would be nice to have a little more depth. And while I have everything apart this is the time to do it.
If you never use the space behind the driver seat, you may be able to put a powered bazooka tube there. Potentially a passive unit, then pick up a five channel amp. I keep a road bag behind my driver's seat so no space there.

I had room to spare so I out it in the middle if the third row seat area. I flipped the back bench over so its a platform and have some brackets to keep the sub in place. The amps on on either side and fastened down so they can be left in place and flip the seat back over. I'd just need to pull the sub enclosure.
I never need to seat more then 5 people though, so hasn't been an issue so far.
