amps and speakers
hi all....i have a 5ch amp that is rated at 2ohm.t i am running my whole system off of this amp. i want to upgrade my front speakers and the ones that i am looking at are rated at 4ohm. so i am wondering if i can run these speakers at 2ohms??? or will this cause problems.....either way the speakers will be under their reccomended RMS power rating so i think that i am ok....will this work or am i risking ruining my new speakers??? thanks in advance

What amp is it? Are you sure that it is 2 ohms on all channels or just the sub channel? Can it be that it is just 2 ohm stable when bridged on the other 4 channels? Lots of information missing from this post.

ok sorry about that....its is a hifonics amp that can be run either at 2 or 4 ohms....all 5 ch are run at the same ohm load. so yes the amp is running all 4 ch at 2 ohms and provides 4ch x110w and 1 sub ch at 300w rms. the speakers i have are infinity perfecty 5 1/4. they are rated for 100w rms at 4ohm. it seems like i can run them at 2ohms and it should be ok but im not sure

How do you plan on running the Infinity's (which, by my recollection are 4ohm) at 2 ohms? If you plan on running your speakers at 2ohms you will need to find a 2ohm speaker.

Only a speaker rated at 2 ohms should be ran at that low of a resistance. Less resistance equals more throughput to the speaker. If the speaker is not constructed to handle the extra load that produces, you will damage the speaker.
Most speakers that can operate at 2 ohms are labeled as such.
