Today, anticipating some brush and even small logs needing removal, I slipped my 1986 Pro Tecta drop in bed liner back into my '77's bed, to keep from scaring up the brush applied Iron Armor. While doing so, being an "under the lip" type, I had to place a 2x6 under the center to bow it up to get the sides under the lips of the bed side, that's normal. I found in doing that deal that there were a couple long longitudinal cracks between the wheel well sides and the bed floor part. I mentioned it to the wife when she came to tell me my painter buddy was ready for the truck. Wife said "I told you to get a new one."
So, after delivery of truck and parts she told me again to get a new one. Pendaliner is the only one I can find online, it is available in both "under the lip" and "over the rail" types. There is a dealer 33 miles from me. Same prices too.
Any others you may know of?
I only had an "under the lip" type because my neighbor had an "over the rail" type and it made it harder for him to use his camper shell on a road trip they took. I bought this under lip and it worked super for me several trips, was cozy camping too and kept some heavier tools dry / secure while I was building our house.. Now, if I buy one again, thinking I may be better off with "over the rail" type, as it protects bed side tops, but then I have those figured out too. I'm wondering about 2 things though,
Are the new ones easier on knees or still have those deep valleys?
How are the new ones retained in the bed now?
Any pics, experiences, etc offered are appreciated.
I put an under the rail Pendaliner in my high boy and it fits nice, you just kick it under the rail basically. I think there are a couple blocks with screws in the rear but I'd have to look I don't remember. front hooks over the front panel. takes 10 minutes to install.
It's not much fun on your knees . it has a good non slip coating on it things stay put as good as they would on a painted surface maybe better.
Unless you have a really nice painted bed inside this is the no brainer way to go in my opinion. it's very durable and doesn't decrease the value like a spray in bedliner does. if you want it out it's out in 10 minutes.

Thank You! Non slip coating is interesting, the old one is slick as snot, even slicker when wet. I take it from this and the website, this coating is durable or maybe even embedded? One prevented fall is worth a lot at 68. I was thinking over the rail might serve me better, but I have some rail top protection already ... I think it maybe that my bed plating years ago maybe is why this old under the lip is so snug going under the rail, but it goes. Yes Sir ... Thank You again.
I have an over the rail on in another pickup. I don't like the looks as well but I use it to hide some dings that would show without it.
I have a Penda in about everything even my '22 super duty I just cut the hole out for the gooseneck ball. they're the solution for any pickup bed in my opinion .
I think so too, I think I may take up my Wife on her demand, 36 years is enough work for one bedliner, it owes me nothing. It's also broke up some at the very rear and the tailgate cover wis cracked at what were screw holes., then there was that time a buddy set a saw down, the guard had stuck, just glad he didn't loose a body part.
The 5 X marks are 5 pinholes & the 2 loops mark 2 cracks ... that I know of, but the floor where loads go looks OK ... though it has some surface cuts and light gouges that don't go all the way through.
I would save the floor for future use over top a new one like if hauling a piece of steel that might cut through, or to lay over a muddy spot if needing to lay under a truck or trailer.
I would go for under, I have saw paint damage on the over rail at the edges. I don't know how you could install a clamp on bed cover on an over rail.
Thank You too Sir! My neighbor who put the bed cap over an "over the lip" liner cut round holes in the liner just big enough to get the clamp fixed end in under the bed lip. I had forgotten about the plasrtic can damage the paint on top of the rail, but now that you mention it, I had seen marks left by his before he got a new truck. Yeah, I like the under lip better too I think. I do feel silly even thinking about replacing my old one but Wife says not to (feel silly). Looking at mine, it served a purpose, and while it looks OK wet, it isn't so black now. I'll repurpose it.
