c6 automatic gearbox question
Good morning all .... i will need your advice and your insights... i am the proud owner of a ford f 150 4x4 with 400 engine and c6 gearbox i noticed a detail that bothers me.. i think it's just an adjustment but I would like confirmation from you... indeed I noticed when I put the gear selector in the rear position without accelerating the wheels start to spin backwards and when I put position D. even at idle I have to put my foot on the brake otherwise the ford advances and wants to advance even with a correct idle ... and 3 things I find that when I start in d and the vehicle starts it feels like a clutch which slips on a car with manual gearbox.. the 1 and the 2 seem to me to slip as if the clutch is worn but everything goes normally suddenly the ford starts slowly I have to accelerate very hard to start it after once launched it rolls but in recovery it slips .. I do not know if I explained myself well ... the pipes are in good condition no leaks the liquid in the box is ok the kick down also works but "slips" it is why I wanted to know what the adjustment of the brake band corresponds to I know that it is regulated but if the band is too tight it can come from there or if it is not tight enough it also could come from there ... a big thank you to all for your feedback ... cordially .. pat
do you know if you have an after-market stall torque converter (which would require more RPM to fully engage?
have you checked the fluid level?
Get yourself a C6 manual, or at least get the specifications required, and check the bands.
Too tight, and too loose, have implications, and they are definitely adjustable, just like brake drum shoes are.
Band adjustment is a standard service requirement.
Check them, adjust them if need be, drive around, and 'feel' a difference, if any.
With regard to fuel consumption, ensure the tire pressures are correct, and ensure that vacuum advance ignition timing actually works.
Just those two things can both rob a vehicle of 10% gas efficiency.
Transmission slipping can rob gas mileage.
An untuned carb or undialed in timing curve can rob gas efficiency.
Your engine/transmission state of tune, together with your driving style, will determine your mpg, so anything between 8mpg and 12mpg is possible, as an off the cuff guideline.

pp 63 needs to start with the easy stuff, and band adjustment is just that.
If he's unlucky, and the band linings are worn, then that becomes an extreme issue.
