1978 C-6 question.
i have a 1978 ford f-150 ext cab. that i just rebuild the engine for and am in the process of putting the transmission back in but i decided to put a new filter in and adjust the bands, but in the book i can only find 1 adjustable band for a C-6
and i was just wondering if there was any other ones.?

Just the one intermediate band. Tighten the adjusting screw to 10 ft-pd. Back the screw out exactly 1 & 1\2 turns. Make sure the screw doesn't move and tighten the nut to spec.; 35-45 ft-pd.

If your c6 is slipping a little can adjusting the bands get you a little farther? I have a replacement for it, I just got to drive 8 hours to get it. Im headed there next week and have to drive the one with the slipping transmission in it. Just wondering if it would help me out.

Probably not. The only thing the brake band does is hold second gear. There are 2 different length C6 4x4 transmissions in the married version.. Make sure you have the right one waiting before driving 8 hours.

Ok yeah I will measure it out and see. Thanks Mark. Gonna be headed down there to see the family for xmas anyway. My brother is bringing a c6 with him for me. But I will call him and see if it is the right one.

Yes, X2 on that. once a c6 slips, I'm afraid it's done. Check the length, if wrong, tranny has to be tore down from front to back to change out put shaft. Good luck. Mark A seems to be a good info source here.
