Hey fellas I’ve received several large leather hides and I thought I’d make a nice headliner and maybe wrap my dash while at it. Any tips on doing so? I assume the headliner will be simple by removing old liner and gluing the leather to the sheet metal. Dash may be more difficult. Any pics would be appreciated also want to leather over the old fabric captains chairs. Shooting wild here but the idea has captivated me. Thanks.
Your headliner is cardboard isn't it? You will need to carefully pull the cardboard down and peel the old headliner off. Then take a hand wire brush and scrub the loose foam off, and then glue your new material in place. A contact cement works best, but I have never worked with leather much. If your cardboard headliner is falling apart in places, you can patch it with duct tape to hold it together. Once you glue the material to it it's not going anywhere.
Getting around all the curves in the dash cover will be difficult. I don't think I could do it and make it look like anything. But maybe you can.
On the seats, I would take your material to a upholstery shop and see what they say about it. If they do it, it probably won't be cheap but they will stitch it up and make it look good.
