Can somebody please explain to me if there is a special trick or special tool required to replace the gas fuel filter on my 2003 Super Duty. The lines are well locked on. Has anyone used Fram filters or do I need the Motorcraft? Thanks in advance!
its about a 24 second job.. if your taking longer than that your doing it wrong.....Belive me i too learned the hard way....You do need a special little tool, its like a plastic deally that slips over the line then into the filter to unlock the little barbs.... i borrowed one from the AF base auto shop and the filter poped right out.

Yep its pretty easy with the tool, but you must be careful that you keep the line pushed onto the filter until you release the fingers in the connector, other wise you could bend one of the fingers over, and dont try pulling hard if it doesnt come .This also can damage the fingers in the retaining cage. But if this happens just cut the end of the old filter with side cutters ,take a pick and remove/replace the cage (they are replacible).I had a couple of guys bring there trucks to my shop after they couldnt get it,and that was the result.hope this helps
