Just posted update to issue I have had for a year. 2005 f550 6.0 would run at 975 rpm, die dead, as if turned key off at 950 rpm. No codes, run all day above 950 rpm. Youtube video by Arthur Macanico "6.0l powerstroke stalling..."
RUST, RUST, RUST. TRUCK WAS USED IN LANDSCAPING AND ROAD PLOW AND SALT. Cam position sensor has swelled up rust the thickness of a sheet of paper push it away from the block. At idle, it would not sync crank and cam sensors so .... dies, restart, idle die.
used crowbar to grind rust from block, modified sensor mount, and BINGO runs idles great. No Codes.
Included on this site, the original repairs, issues, counter repairs, the give up and finally a complete detailed list of the fix, includes pics. about 1 year ago??may2020?? review for detailed list of repair
You have no idea. I always had a hard line at ten years keeping a vehicle in the Northeast, so I never used anything like Wool Wax or other rust protectors. I need a low rust roller, but many in today's market are more willing to do the engine work required. And mine is not as bad as others I see around.
After replacing the bed with a rust free Texas box on my 05 I really started doing rust prevention. Albeit too late to save my original bed, and rocker panels. I’ve been using the Blaster Surface Shield on everything under this truck, even the engine block. Trying to save what’s left before the Maryland salt eats the rest…..NJ road deicing is just as bad.
