I just traded for a 1986 F-150 4x4 300 v6 bumper says wine burger edition. The guy before me had put a new gas tank on it and had a micro electric fuel pump feeding the carb and if I take off fast or climb a hill it looses fuel pressure and cuts off and I have to suck fuel back up to the carb. I tried to find the correct fuel pump for the truck and every where tells me it should be a machinical fuel pump but the engine block has the spot but it was never drilled out for the cam or bolt. So it doesn't take a machinical pump. Please help me find the correct pump for this truck it's driving me crazy because nobody knows

Checked rockauto and according to that website both Mechanical and electric fuel pumps. Which suprised me. Kind of figured a 1986 would be fuel injectioned. Anyway i would fill the tank full and try taking off on a hill. If it works fine then the strainer on the fuel pick up has probably fallen off. That would be my first guess.
if you have to pull the sending unit i would pull the fuel line off, pull the line off of the carburetor end and remove the fuel filter.
the blow compressed air both directions through all fuel lines and replace your fuel filters. If you suspect your fuel pump isn't doing its job depending on if it is inline (on the frame rail) or in the tank (attached to the sending unit) hopefully inline on the frame rail and if it is check your carburetors suggested fuel pressure and i would recommend a
Firt we need to know just what motor the truck has as there was not a 300 v6.
Think a 255 v6 and a 300 straight 6. Got a picture of the motor you can post?
My guess it's a 300 straight 6 from 87 or newer as they were EFI and were not machined for a block mounted fuel pump.
I would replace ALL RUBBER fuel line from tank to carb as a start.
The outside can look good but be bad on the inside blocking flow.
Did not say if 1 or 2 tanks but the switch valve could be partly bad.
Carb float level could be too low.
As said the tank pick up could be to high and fuel level to low, test as posted out.
That electric pump could be weak.
Where is it mounted and dose it use a relay for power?

Like was said, you more than likely have a later engine swapped in place. Where is the electric fuel pump located? How are the lines run? I don't like a lot of rubber line on the suction side of the pump. Does it have the problem all the time or just after it warms up on a hotter day?
