Locked out, any way to open?

I had a strange thing happen that doesn’t seem normal to me. I had a power steering line fail, (which I posted about here as well). So I ordered a replacement from Rockauto under warranty and while it was going to take a while to receive, I left the truck parked on the street and of course locked up. When the part arrived, I proceeded to install only to find my battery had totally died (Thats another story). No big deal, just jump it and recharge, right? But now I find that my key will not operate the door lock at all. Nothing wrong with the lock cylinder, I used the key recently and I sprayed in some dry lube graphite just in case. Luckily for me, I have a cable hanging in the front to operate my snowplow, so I was able to hook up jumpers to that and use the remote. This can’t be the way it was designed, its crazy. I would had had to call a locksmith or figure out a way to release the the hood latch. Don’t think I could use a slim jim at the window, because I have aftermarket drip guards on the windows. Has this happened to anyone else?

The key has nothing to do with the battery and vise versa, if you turned the key and the lock did not release, open the door panel and see what's up with the linkages.

It doesn’t make sense, I tried several times and it didn’t make a clicking as it should when functioning properly. Possibly I wasn’t putting enough muscle into it, because I wasn’t sure which direction unlocked it. It works just fine now that the battery is charged up. It’s like the electronic control was preventing it from turning far enough, maybe it was a freak thing. I’m going to have to try and duplicate the issue again by pulling a fuse or disconnecting the battery.
