E Coat Frame
i KNOW THIS REPLY IS NOT TIMELY BUT i WORKED IN AN AUTO ASSEMBLY PLANT FOR 25 YEARS, 12 OF WHICH WERE AS A PAINT INSPECTOR. E-COAT (ELECTRICLY BONDED COATING) IS PERHAPS THE BEST WAY TO INHIBIT RUST. UNLIKE UNDERCOATING IT DOES NOT TRAP MOISTURE AND RARLEY BRIDGES THIN GAPS. I HAVE A 1999 SVT LIGHTNING, THIS YEAR I WILL BEGIN TO DETAIL THE UNDERBODY. IF IT WAS A BODY OFF REBUILD I WOULD ABSOLUTLY GET IT DIPPED. IN MY CASE HOW EVER I WILL SUBSISTUTE USING SELF ETCHING PRIMER WITH A CLEAR MATTE TOPCOAT. THE DULL GREEN FROM THE PRIMER LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE E-COAT. I'M NOT SURE WHAT FORD USES ON TRUCK FRAMES IF ANYTHING. THOUGH IT IS LIKELY THEY DO USE. AN E-COAT BATH. THE REAL KEY TO THE TENDANCEY FOR FORD TRUCK FRAMES TO NOT BE PRONE TO EARLY RUST OUT IS THE QUALITY OF THE STEEL THEY USE.. CHEAP STEEL WITH IMPURITIES LEADS TO EARLY RUST OUT ESPECIALLY IN A ENVIROMENT THAT IS CORROSIVE LIKE SALTED ROADS. THE VALUE OF HIGH QUALITY STEEL IS SOMETHING THAT FORD HAS ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD UNLIKE OTHER TRUCK MANUFACTURERS. (THIS MEANS YOU DODGE).
