I don’t know, but I have those on my ‘18 F150 and dislike them for the reason you mentioned. Plus, the chrome is starting to bubble in a few spots. It’s almost as if they are rusting from underneath and pushing the chrome finish up. The bubbles haven’t popped through the chrome finish yet, but I would imaging that’s coming. Will be trading it soon. My new F250 will have black running boards, so I’ll be glad to be done with the chrome angular ones.
There is no rust on these boards. They are fiberglass and salt will make them delaminate.
Really I assumed they were steel underneath, and the bubbling was due to rust. Thanks
mine are bubbling and the chrome is cracking off. I determined the problem is water makes it under the black slats, and sits in there, and the boards are aluminum with plastic like chrome wrap. The aluminum rusts and makes the chrome crack.
I do really like the look of my running boards but the design is not conducive to long life. As stated, water can run down along the rubber pieces and once the aluminum starts to oxidize it’s all downhill.
after a boatload of research, i went with Hammerhead running boards. they are all steel, tuck up closer to the body of the truck rock slider style. I had them line X'd for extra winter protection.
On my next truck, I won't hesitate to do the same thing. 👍
