Okay I will see if this fixes it and let you know. The EBPV in the other turbo seemed to be good, no stickiness or anything but a lot of oil in the turbo and around the fins so I think that could be a big issue. There’s not suppose to be any oil in there is there? The exhaust has the banks exhaust and is straight piped. I looked it over and made sure everything was clean in it before I put it in yes but I didn’t take the valve covers off and look at anything like that.
Hey @Ford Firefighter i finally got it all put back together. Deleted the EPBV in the new turbo, got a new fuel pump and got it all put together. There’s no white smoke when it’s at idle but because i Just got it done tonight I can’t tell if I’m blowing out black smoke because of the tune or white smoke so I’ll have to let you know when I drive it in the day time. But the throttle seems a little funny to me, it goes pretty fast 1-3 gear but 4-5 you go like normal but if I floor it, it doesn’t do anything for it but barley barley go. And if I let up on it a little and hold it at a certain height it takes off and gains speed pretty fast. Any ideas on what that could be?
Glad you got it back in! Those are a pistol!😠
what tuner do you have? And who’s tunes? What tune are you running?
Not too sure on the throttle you’re describing, I have a zf5 (manual trans) so not very familiar with the auto. These turbos do take a long time to start building boost, not sure if maybe that’s what you’re experiencing? For my truck you have to get the rpms up there before she moves like we like lol
@Ford Firefighter i have the edge tuner on it right now and I have it on the tow haul mode.
yeah I also have the zf5 tranny. I’m not sure how to describe it any better it just feels like the pedal isn’t giving it as much power as I want when I floor it, it does nothing. But still runs good enough to sell. I want to get rid of it haha where would be the best places to sell it? Any ideas on anyone who would want one?
Oh okay I guess I just assumed it was an auto..
Did the truck ever run better than what it is now?
As far as selling Craig’s List has some pretty insane prices in these trucks, just saw a f250 with 130k miles, very clean wanted 50k it was clean but not 50k clean!
I think you’d be surprised what you can get for these things!
Sorry I just re read! New truck with bad engine.. got it.
I think what you’re feeling is just the lag of the turbo taking time to spool? KC Turbos sells a smaller AR housing that supposedly spools 2-3x faster
@Hit Man X What do you think? You have a stock turbo with a zf5 right? Doesn’t it take a few rpms to get it going?
@Ford Firefighter it didn’t drive much better no, I put the tune on it and I think that’s what has helped with the throttle and if I give it 1-2 inches before it hits the floor it kicked in and drives faster but if I push it to the floor it doesn’t do anything. Okay I’ll check it out! Thank you what do you think would be a good price for a 1996 7.3. The body has 320xxx on it and this engine has around 117xxx. It has new fuel pump and filter. the banks exhaust and has new fly wheel, pressure plate, clutch, and throw out bearing. The interior is almost flawless and the outside is pretty clean with a dent in the bed on the passenger side. I’ll upload some pics if you wanted to tell me what you’d pay for it.
That’s a clean truck!
As far as what I would pay, I just wouldn’t buy a truck during this insane market, it doesn’t hurt to post it high and come down unless you’re in a hurry to be out from under it.
Just poke around CL and see what the posting prices are and go from there.
I no kidding am seeing these OBS 7.3s posted for 40k+ which to me is absolutely insanity! But I guess when they can’t get a new vehicles you go to the older ones. I’d just check CL
Thank you, it’s the only reason I got the truck in the first place was because it Was so clean with very little wrong with the body and nothing wrong with the inside. Okay I’ll check around thank you. I was thinking somewhere around 10k for it?
@Ford Firefighter ive also had a different problem with this truck I haven’t even addressed yet. First thing in the morning(it gets to about 20-25 degrees at night) I come out to first start it in the morning and it doesn’t start or even act like it wants to fire. A little starting fluid and it fires right up and starts okay the rest of the day it’s just the first initial start. What could be causing this? I don’t plug it in at night but my other truck stars fine and I never plug it in either.
More than likely it’s your glow plugs, or the GP relay. You can search how to test the GP relay.
To test it, plug the truck in the night before and try to start it in the morning, if it starts then it’s most likely your GP system
If you do put in new GPs make sure you get Authentic Motorcraft, others are very unreliable
@Ford Firefighter so I haven’t done anything with the injectors but I took the valve cover off because it was leaking oil pretty bad and I heard that if the truck was running and I unplugged one injector at a time it would run really rough. Just to find out if one is bad or not. The very front one made it idle really bad and shake. And so did the back one. When I unplug the middle front one I barely hear a change in tone and it doesn’t really shake as much or anything. And when I unplug the middle back one I don’t notice a single thing change. Is that normal? Because there In the middle does it not shake as much? Or are those injectors bad. Because I'm Thinking that’s why there is some white smoke. I’ve had someone tell me they could be stuck open or something. Any ideas on that one?
