Lie-O-Meter Fun.

Anyone familiar with I 215 in SoCal knows it runs downhill from 210 FWY into Colton. Traffic was slow, 60-65, but steady and I had filled up 6 miles earlier. I got to 19.4 mpg before traffic pretty much came to a stop. It then crept down and this tank with 80 miles of mostly freeway driving is showing 15.6. I know it can be off but even it it's off 10% those are interesting numbers. I have noticed that this truck is elevation sensitive, running south on the 605 or 15 makes MPG climb.
Also, does anyone know why the MTE doesn't recalculate? Before I started towing my MTE was a little over 400 miles with a full tank. Today it showed 270 miles but has been climbing. Is it using my last tanks average or lifetime average now?

2022 CCSB, 7.3, 3.55 gears.

Switch the DTE calculation setting from normal to towing, and it will recalculate over a shorter distance. IIRC, it will also provide an earlier low fuel alert.

It calculates based on the last 500 miles of driving, if I remember correctly.

Go into engineering mode and adjust your mpg setting. There are a few "how to's" on here... Then it no longer becomes the "lie o meter".

Our 2020 F-350 7.3L would get 15 MPG in New Mexico, average running down I-40. Once we got past Clovis and into Texas it started dropping steadily as the elevation went down. Around here - Abilene - it would only average 12.5 or so. Pretty much verified that by the old school method. Towing is reduced as altitude goes up according to the manual but I never noted much difference between TX and NM when pulling the big trailer. 20K out and 16K back, average 7.5 over 1000 miles from around 1800 MSL here to 5314 in Albuquerque.

Did that on my 2017 and will do it again on my 2022 after i go through 10 or more tanks of fuel. May be awhile though ... after 5 months of ownership, I just turned 1,600 miles. WFH certainly keeps the miles from accumulating.

I did it after 2 tanks in my F150 I bought in January. Both tanks were within 1 "adjustment" number of each other.
